Susan Lizer was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She attended the University of South Florida. Her Bachelors Degree is in Education and her Masters Degree is in Reading. She worked for Hillsborough County Schools for 34 years as teacher, district administrator and principal until she retired in 1999.
Susan has always loved the visual arts, spending hours in museums in large cities here in the states and abroad. After retirement she participated in an extended workshop entitled “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.” She then began learning to paint with oils, enjoying weekly lessons for several years. During that time she developed an interest in painting miniatures. She also loves to paint portraits inspired by her now adult children and her nine grandchildren. These are done using casual family photographs or photos taken during “dress up” sessions.
Three years ago Susan moved to Franklin. She discovered the Macon County Art Association and immediately found a group of supportive artists who have become friends. MCAA membership has allowed her to learn from the many instructors who offer classes at the Uptown Gallery. The Thursday Painters group, open to everyone, has afforded camaraderie and a weekly opportunity to learn from fellow artists. Someone in that group knows anything needed about most any visual art.
Susan continues to love to paint and plans to keep learning from the fine artists in this community as long as she can.
